.gitignore entries show on unstaged changes

I Don't if it's a bug or a missing feature, but it would be nice to have gitx take the .gitignore and .gitattributes into consideration when showing unstaged changes.

After testing some more on this issue, found out that if the .gitignore entries exist before the first commit of an object/tree, then the they don't show up as unstaged changes.
On the other hand, if one adds entries to the .gitignore relating to obejcts already commited, they continue to show up as unstaged.
Maybe this is a Git thing, not GitX.
