Keep last commit messages (feature request)
Reported by Nicolas Fouché | November 21st, 2008 @ 02:30 PM
The commit UI of TextMate has a drop-down list which contains the 5 last commit messages. Obviously, selecting one of those commit messages fills the 'Commit Message' field.
I use them when I don't remember the ticket numbers I'm working on. So the ticket number is pre-written and I just have to change the text.
Thanks!

Hmm.
While I understand the use case, I really don't like the interface. I find the drop-down box ugly, so I'd prefer not having it in the commit view.
Do you have any other suggestions UI-wise?

Errr.. what about a little grey arrow. Clicking on it would show something like a contextual menu. You can see this if you click on the magnifying glass of the Safari search bar.

But I can also switch to the 'History' view :) I have to admit that the commit tree is a lot more accessible in GitX than in TextMate.
Sadly, when I switch back from 'History' view to 'Commit' view, the commit message disappears.

That last part is fixed since 0a2ddc36f7 (GitWindowController: Store multiple views) :)
I'll think about this a bit. I'll close this feature for now, as it isn't high on my priority list
