Commit message with ^A wreaks havoc in history-view

Reported by Josh Bleecher Snyder | September 14th, 2010 @ 04:42 PM

[Moved from the github wiki by Josh; confirmed in Nathan's "experimental branch release 3 sep 12 2010", using git 1.7.2.3, OS X 10.6.4. The original transcript follows.]

GitX: 0.7.1
OS X: 10.6.2
git: 1.6.4.2

Inadvertently, I’ve created a commit that has ^A (ASCII 01) in the message. It results in the history-view being completely out of whack (see screenshot at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/329468/ctrl-a-in-commit.png)
Also see the git log output:

commit f0f550a39badf12667cf292639fa95693bc8926b

Author: Pieter de Bie pdebie@ai.rug.nl
