Failing to load repo with git 1.5.3.7

Reported by Scott Guelich | October 5th, 2008 @ 03:48 PM

Just discovered gitx and installed version 0.4. When I try to open one of my repos in gitx, I get an empty window with no History/Commits listed. I tried specifying the .git folder as well -- no difference.

I'm running git 1.5.3.7, and the GitX manual says "anything higher than v1.5.3 should do." Have the requirements changed?

I don't believe I have more than one instance of git installed, but I installed the command-line tool and launched from Terminal to be sure it wasn't picking git up from an alternate path. I don't see the --early-output option in my man page for git-ls-files.

Here are the console messages:

    • State changed from “new” to “open”

I'm sorry, both the --early-output and the --exclude-standard options are new in 1.5.4, I had not realized this.

The easy fix for you is to upgrade to a newer git.

I'll keep this ticket open in case I can adjust GitX to not use those arguments. Otherwise I will update the documentation

    • State changed from “open” to “small”

I changed the user manual to indicate that version 1.5.4 is required.

The --early-output option can be fixed easily by making it optional. The --exclude-standard option should also be fixable.

However, for now I think users should just upgrade their git ;) therefore I'm marking this bug as small.

I've decided not to support Git < 1.5.4 anymore

I'm fine with that - the documentation change is sufficient.

Unfortunately I'm still having problems after upgrading to git 1.6.0 - but that's a new ticket.
